School's out for weeks now !  I am home full time with 3 kids !  It's play play and play all day everyday for us.  I didn't want to sign them up for anything at first but then gave in and signed them up for swimming.  It will give me and the girls some time together without disruptions from the Terrible 2 :-)

Our first plane trip out of country as a family of 5.  C and I were quite nervous about the flight. Our kids are super active and rarely sit in one place for long.  First we were thinking of going to San Diego, Anaheim, or LA, mainly for the short flight.  However after reviewing hotels and distance between hotels and attractions and the beach, we would need a car to zip around all those places. C doesn’t feel comfortable driving in unfamiliar places so after going back and forth on it, California is off our list. I then looked around for other warm places and Hawaii came to mind. Flight is longer than we would like but it’s the only way if we want warm summer-like weather.  This trip is meant for spring break and for Bee's birthday.  She told us months in advance she would rather we go some where, like previous year, than have a party at home.  Although this time, while opening her presents from us, she came to the realization that without a party, she doesn't get many gifts :-D

Victoria is great for a weekend jaunt across the water.  Close to home but far enough to make you feel like you went away.  We went there many times without kid, then with 1, then 2, and now with 3 kids in tow !  The day before we go I like to print out a map of our hotel and surrounding places (restaurants, point of attractions, convenient shops, etc).  I also jot down a tentative itinerary for our four days there.  Listing things we can do and places we can go if the weather is nice or if it's cloudy and rainy.  I do this every time we travel, to give us a frame work to shape our day, to save time and to ensure all the must do items are covered.  For me, I want to visit Hatley museum while the girls said they must visit the bugs zoo.

For this trip, I booked it through BC Ferries Vacation, which includes ferry reservation, ferry rides, and hotel. It's convenient and now with family of 5, I need that extra booking help of an agent with finding us a family room for a steal !  My agent, Kathie, was friendly and helpful.  When posted pictures on fb about this trip, I realized a lot of people don't know that BC Ferries has a travel center that grouped hotel and ferry cost into an affordable package. We saved a lot booking through them vs booking hotel and ferry separately (if you know me, I am all about price comparison and finding deals :)  We saved close to $100 per night at the hotel we picked and also saved the $15/day hotel parking.  I worked out, with the package, ferry ride both way is over $200 so hotel works out to be about $200 a night.  The hotel website quoted me over $300 so this is a deal !  The room we booked is a suite, with full kitchen, so it's a plus.  We will definitely go this route again with BC Ferries.

The ride

The drive to ferry was smooth and put baby Peanut to sleep.  Yay !  When we about to board, C realized he forgot the stroller and I realized I forgot my ergo carrier at home :(  No no no no no !  I can't believe it !!!  The most important item to take and we both forgot ! I even walked around the house to ensure we got everything too.  Oh well, we'll have to pick up a cheap one once there.

We had lunch on the ferry, trusty Triple O :-)  Can't go wrong with chicken tenders and greens.  We had our fill then let the kids blow off their energy at the small play area.  There's free wifi so we quickly logged in to check on the weather and news then logged off.  We want to limit being connected, just so our brain can really rest.

Hotel check in isn't til 4 so we went and check out Hatley castle.

The castle is quite magnificent !  I was picking between this one and Craigdarroch but I opted for Hatley when I read the latter one was reportedly haunted and I am not into that.  Hatley's ground is very well kept.  We went on a Friday so it was quiet.  They were setting up for a wedding and Peanut is wide awake so we decided opt out on the tour.  He would be agitated and we can't see everything due to the wedding anyways.  The visit was a nice stop on the way to hotel.  The girls ran up and down and around this place.  They should be tired and ready for dinner !

We arrived to our hotel, Parkside Hotel & Spa Victoria, a little before 4pm but they let us check in early.  Front desk staff was super nice and friendly.  Our suite was nice and quite huge, over 600 sq. at least.  I like the modern decor and the kitchen with a breakfast counter.  The kids love the huge pool and hot tub and the koi fishes.

Right in front of this hotel, cutting through beautiful yard of St. Ann's Academy, is Beacon Hill park !  Our kids will love the green space.  From here, it's a walkable distance to all other main attractions.  It's just right at the skirt of the downtown core, no car fumes, less crowd, and not noisy.  Quite peaceful here !  The coffee shop downstairs make a delicious Americano.  My husband planned to visit it twice a day.

After touring the hotel and settling in, we went out for dinner then back to our room.  The kids were excited to go swimming at the hotel's pool.  We were excited to use the hot tub.

Day 2

Morning we went wandering around downtown Victoria, grabbing some warm drinks to keep us toasty !  My phone reported 17 degrees but the city is surrounded by water so it's quite cool and windy at times.  I love the charming heritage look of Victoria city.  No tall glass high rises and no box like buildings.  There are many local brands/stores on the main shopping district.  You don't find Starbucks at every corner.  I sense there's a strong support for local shops here.

Picked up a carrier from Walmart.  I was hoping to pick up a used Ergo on Craigslist but couldn't find any.  Still mad at myself for forgetting my Ergo at home :-S

After lunch we head to Beacon Hill park, about 5 min. walk from our hotel.  This place is a beauty.  It's the highlight of this trip for me.  The kids love the petting zoo with loads of goats and peacocks wandering around.  After petting the goats, we went on a short hike and let the kids run wildly up and down the hills.  Admission to the zoo is by donation and the lady at the gate gave us a peacock feather for souvenir!  How nice is that ?

After dinner and some rest in our hotel, we headed downstairs to the pool.  The kids love swimming in there !  Even more so after they discovered the swimming wings (allowed them to swim in the deep end).  I like the pool here because it is not very crowed.  Usually there're 2-4 other kids and less than 5 adults.  C especially liked the hot tub !  He and I switched holding baby so the other can have some soaking time !

This is the first trip as a family of 5 and the kids behaved so well !  Yay for future road trip !

Day 3

We went to the bugs zoo as per the girls request.  It's a small little place with lots of creepy crawlies.  The kids went nuts, screaming and cringing.  I was lining up to touch a tarantula spider but Peanut was hungry and won't stop whining so we left.  We all got our hands stamped on the way out, this way we can return later in the day.  The admission price is for all day access !

After feeding Peanut, we went for lunch then back to the hotel to pack for the beach !!!  Willows beach is a 10 min drive away, a really nice sandy beach with loads of drift woods.  I fell in love with it the moment we set foot on the sand.  Quiet, not crowded, fine soft sand, and free parking.  I walked around exploring the beach with baby Peanut, while C and the girls collected drift woods and built a hut !  C always built something at the beach :)  He is made to be an architect.

After the beach, we went out for dinner then back to the hotel for a visit to the pool :-)  No matter how fun the day is, it isn't quite complete without swimming !  For our 2 girls that is.

We went out for breakfast on our last day then back to hotel to pack up.  Before heading home we wanted to visit Willows beach again.  We hang out there for a couple of hours, enjoying the hut C built the day before !  Our time were spent lazying around !  The beach was quiet today.  The sky was blue, calm and clear.

Story of my life !  Always late for the camera !!! 

With Bee at home for the summer holiday, I am going to get to spend a lot of time with all of them kids.  I know it's going to be a little chaotic but I am prepared for it.  This is the only summer where I get to be with all 3 of them (back to work next year) so having that tucked in the back of my head, I approached each day with renewed spirit and strength !  We're going to have fun !  That's all we're going to do, anything that's we can think of that's fun.  And through our fun time, I want to get to know Bee a little more.  She's at school a good chunk of day so now that I get her to me, all day long, I want to get to a little closer :)

What I learned about Bee:

She's amazingly gifted.  She has so many creative ideas !  Like making crowns for her friends from construction papers, to making magic wand, slime goo, garden potion, cutting butterfly (for the electric elephant fan), painting rocks, and making books.  Whenever I come up with an idea she would take it and run with it, make it better.  She even came up with a short skit, where we get dressed up and each had a part to act out.  That's my girl !  I tell her often that I'm so proud of her and she would say matter-of-factly to me "Mom, I am an artist ! ?"

Bee loves to write and draw.  Her pictures are often of me or her daddy, our family or activities we did.  I get a lot of "I love you mommy" cards and pictures and they makes my heart fluttered each time.  I am so happy to see her growing each day.  Bee also take on more responsibilities this year.  She sets the dining table, she helps out in the kitchen, helps out with baby and on many occasions, wiped her sister's bum bum :-D  Bee is still into princesses, Elsa and Cinderella are her favorites.  I hope to take her to Disneyland sometime before she grows out of them.

Bee wrote a short skit for us to act and asked me to make them costumes !

Talk about Bee, I can't leave out Lovebug and Peanut !  Lovebug is still quite the drama queen she is and recently likes to bargain!  She bargains with us over everything from timed out to how many bites of dinner she needs to eat.  Funny thing is she doesn't understand numbers yet so sometime she would say "5 min of times out ok?" When she was only timed out for 3 (1 min. Per year). This one child brings me lots of headaches but also makes me laugh out loud often.

Lovebug is very impatient, highly emotional and very dramatic.  She cares a lot about feeling and operates mainly in the "feel" level.  I find myself checking on her often throughout the day.  She would tell me she's sad, mad, or upset or tell me that I'm rude and that she doesn't love me.  At first I was taken back but one can't expect their kids to love them every minute of day.  When I say no to snacks before dinner, I'm rude and I'm no longer loved !!!  I don't fall for it and firm with my rules.  I love her and that's all that mattered.  

Peanut is learning to eat mushy soft food !  Very messy feeding him but seeing him chomping away is pretty funny and rewarding.  He can sit and crawl now !  Pretty soon he'll be taking his first step.  He likes fruits so whenever he sees me holding a tray of them he would lynch towards it to grab whatever he can.  He can't eat solid fruits so after a few chomps on the apple slice or pear, he would spit up all over him and me :(

Summer will soon come to an end and we will be back to our usual routines.  We play so much every day that hubby is worry that falling back into routine will be hard for Bee.  We shall see !  For now I'm just going to enjoy being with my children.  From dawn to dusk, it's crazy, silly, inspiring, surprising, wonderful, and nuisance being with them !  Then when they sleep I miss all the noise, the complaints, I just miss them so darn so much.  

The peonies are blooming in our garden !!!  Before they all die away, I thought it's high time I cut some and bring them inside !  they are so lovely to look at while I mind the kids.  While out in the garden with some free time before dinner, I had an idea to set up the tee pee !  I've been wanting to do this for a while now.  I even bought the bamboo sticks but just haven't got the time to get to them !  But today, right at this time, I have time :D  If you want to try this, you will need:

- 6 bamboo sticks, $1.19 from Rona (they came in 8 feet high and we got it cut down to around 6 feet to fit into our car)

- 1 flat bed sheet, I used a queen size for mine but I think a king flat sheet will cover better

- 2 strings, 1 to tie the bamboo sticks together (at least 30" long) and 1 for the sheet 

What I did is I gathered all the sticks at the top, tie the string around the sticks then across and around each sticks !!!  Basically just tie them all over so they don't fall or slide out :-)  Then I took each stick and arrange it on the grass so they form a hexagon shape.  Take the bottom end of each stick and push it into into the ground to keep it in position.  Mine barely dug in but they stayed up and kept the shape ok.  

Next, I gathered up the mid point of the flat sheet, wrapped it around the area where I tied the bamboo sticks and used another strong string to tie around the fabric to keep it together and that's all there is to it !  There's no specific way to tie the bamboo or sheet, just tie which ever way you need to keep them from falling apart :D  We also decorated the top of the tee pee with ivy vines and flowers and some wild climbing plant we found in our garden !!!  That part was really fun for the girls.  They gathered up all the stuff and I lifted each of them up to throw the vine over the bamboo sticks.  The structure set up took about 7 min. and decoration took another 5 min.!  Not so bad, not so bad at all.

The girls had great time running in and out of the tee pee !  Bee found a huge moth in the tee pee and we shooed it away before she can take hold it !  She got quite upset so for a good chunk of time ! she was pouting and kept saying "mothy mothy" :(  She also got annoyed with me asking her to be still for a second (I try to take a family picture (didn't work)).  I don't like to force my kids to do something they don't enjoy (depending on what of course) so if they showed no interest or annoyance then I scrap it.  Taking pic. with her is getting harder nowadays as she rather play than sit in for family picture.  Totally understandable and expected.  Both her and Love doesn't mind me taking pictures of them while they play though.  I always prefer to take spontaneous pictures of the girls over posing them, because it not only capture the real moment but also doesn't interfere with them enjoying whatever it is they are doing.

It was a fun afternoon for me !  I got to set up the tee pee, decorated it, watched the kids play and managed to capture some of it.   I love taking pictures of the kids !  It makes me happy.  But you already know that with all the posts I posted :) I do really enjoy it.  I have no special technique, pro. knowledge or special skills, other than just take random shots, click click click, and then I surprise myself with whatever I captured :-)

This is what life is for me at the moment !  Constantly wiping milk mustaches and a baby that licks anything that is near.  

I love this picture !  It's captured them perfectly !  one is all cool in the don't-care kind of way while the other does everything over the top and passionately !

My little boy is now 3 months.  He's onto the next milestone of his life which is to master rolling over.  When he's on his play mat, his bum just automatically go onto one side and with one or two hard kick and he's on his tummy.  Quite amazing to see how he's growing and developing.  Like how do they know how to do that ?  I obviously didn't show him.  His brain and body just do it.  So cool!

Nolan's eye sight are getting more clearer.  I don't think he sees details yet but in his blurry-ness he recognizes us.  When he looks around the room and caught my eyes his mouth will open to a huge grin, showing his bare gums.  And I get really happy too seeing how happy he is to see me. 

Sleep has been good for all of us.  He wakes up once around 3 or 4am for a feed.  He sleeps around 9pm so that's a solid straight 6 or 7 hours of sleep for him.  If I sleep at same time as him I would get that many too :) but I usually sleep at 10:30.  I get a totally of 7 or 8 hours a night so can't complain.

It feels so long since I have to burp him to avoid spit up.  Now I just feed him and off he goes onto his play mat for playing or into his crib for sleeping.  Talk about sleeping, he's great at putting himself to sleep.  I don't have to rock him like Bee or snuggle with him like Love.  It's a catch 20 because I love those quiet times together.  With Peanut, when he rubs his eyes and head, a sign of "I'm sleepy", I would lay him in his crib and he would have this short nudging kind of cries then less than 5 min. he's out.  If he's tired, he's out the moment I put him in the crib.  Sometime he would sleep on the play mat.  All in all a very easy going baby.  

As for me, postpartum is taking its usual course.  I am loosing lots of hair, which is always sad and I hope they do grow back.  The dark line on my tummy is still very vivid.  I remember it went away quite quickly with the girls but this one is a stubborn one.  I gained a lot of weight with this pregnancy.  I am down 30lbs already, thanks to breastfeeding.  I have another 10 more to loose to get back to my pre-pregnancy weight but these looks like they will stay -) Not many of my clothes fit right now, at least the way it supposed to fit.  It was discouraging getting dressed when we go out but I fixed that by buying some new clothes, in bigger size.  I am kind to me because I did pop out 3 kids after all.  They oughta take a toll on my body and that's good that they left marks !!!  Once things are settled I will will try to get back into shape, just because I don't want to waste all the old clothes I got :)  Right now I love joggers and loose t-shirt !  I am an owner of a few sets :) they are so comfortable !

As for my abdominal muscles, they haven't  gotten back together yet.  How do I know ?  By laying flat on floor, with a finger poking down in my belly and holding it there, I would try to do a sit up.  I can feel my muscles pulling in and gripping slightly on my finger but there's still a little gap.  I can't do any ab workout just yet.  I might take up running !  I need more energy to keep up with all these kids.  

Day to day, I am quite busy with taking Love to Strong Start half day in the morning, then picking up Bee after lunch and let them burn their energy at the playground for an hour. Then prepping dinner and eating dinner and our evening ends with C entertaining the kids indoor or outdoor while I clear up and clean up.  C would get the girls ready for bath time and book time while I get Peanut ready for bed, and that pretty much concluded our day.  

My day activities repeat itself every morning.  Might sound boring but I like schedule, I like predictable, make it easy to plan for other things.  The fun elements are there each day, watching the kids play and fight and laugh and cry !  Watching Peanut smiles, goo goo gah gah, and rolling over then getting frustrated like a fish on dry land.  It's eventful in a way.  Never a dull moment.  

At lunch, everyday, C would call home and we'll chat about things he saw and read and encountered.  I will tell him about the kids so he's not missing out.  When I feel down, because sometime mommies do, when I feel like I didn't accomplish anything worthy, he would affirm me and tell me how great I am and how important I am to our family.  Talking with him always lift up my spirit because sometime it's hard to see things clearly when you're in the gutter.  Everything is taking their due courses and soon summer will come knocking.  By then both girls will be home everyday and I will have 3 kids to hug and hold and to complain about !  

We almost made it !  It was so close.  6:30 ish, I was woken up by the feeling of wetness in my waist area.  I thought Peanut's diaper leaked so I reached over to check on him.  He's sleeping away on his waterproof sheet, all warm and dry.  I puzzled then turned to the other side of me.  My eyes rested on set of sorry sad eyes piercing into mine.  She's on the brink of tears.  Lovebug wet the bed.  I look down on the bed and the darkened area was huge, all around her, 1/4 of our queen bed.  I must have forgotten to ask her to go to the washroom before bed.  Another half an hour and we might have avoided this.  I think.  Maybe.  Lovebug's usually wake up at 7am and rush off to the washroom.  Not today.  She haven't wet the bed for a few months now.

Accident happened.  I moved Peanut over to dry land !  He nor his sheet are wet.  He happily sleeps away.  Lovebug whispered to me, "Pee go in toilet mommy.  I didn't mean to!".  I patted her arm reassuringly, "I know honey, I know.  It happened sometime.  Let's get you and me cleaned up" I said then bent down to pick her up and headed to the bathroom.  "Sorry mommy.  I didn't mean to!" she repeated.  She feels bad, that I know but also I feel uneasy that she's so apologetic.  I don't want her to be too hard on herself.  She's only 3.  I assured her it's completely ok and sometime I have accident too (not same like this :)  It's good to acknowledge our mistakes but we must also be kind to ourselves.

She asked me to change her after.  She usually likes to dress herself so I asked her "Are you sure ?  You like to pick your clothes".  "I like you to change me sometime mommy.  Can you pick for me please", she said with a happy grin.  I picked out another Pj for her and as we shuffle back into bed she asked, "can you hold me to sleep mommy?".  I was so sleepy, and holding here means rocking her back to sleep.  Lovebug has always been very independent.  She prefers to do everything on her own, or in her words "by self".  Whenever she asked me to dress her or feed her or hold her to sleep, I jumped at the chance.  Mind you, I try to force my motherly way on her sometime, like rocking her to sleep and she would tell me to please put her down so she can sleep.  At least I try :) some times she'll let me, some day she would ask me, and I am eager to complied.

I love to baby her.  I feel she grew up so fast and became so independent from me so young.  I still remember her refusing my breast at 10 months. She was ready to live off solid food.  I didn't have to wean her.  It's great but I also feel a loss.  A catch 20 for me.

This morning I get to change and rock this baby to sleep.  I feel great.  I like holding her in the quietness of morning.  Feeling her tiny hand in my hand.  I am tired and wanted to sleep some more but that can wait.  I get to hold this girl !  No matter how independent she is, how grown she is, how she's capable of many things, she is still my baby and forever my baby she will be.

A friend and I was messaging each other about our babies.  She loves staring at her baby girl and seeing her expressions.  While I love looking at Nolan and seeing my effect on him.

When Nolan is up from sleep, he would lay next to me kicking, staring into the ceiling and turning his head to me once in a while to see if I am up.  Usually his constant kicking would wake me up and I usually lay there for a good 10 min. with eyes closed.  It's an internal battle of waking up and kiss him or trying to sleep some more.  And kissing the boy always win.  I would turn to Nolan and whisper "hi Nolan" and he would responded with a huge smile that turns into a chuckle, and his two legs go into super ninja kick and arms flapping.  He's so happy to see me.  And it's not because I am his food or because he needs changing !  If he's hungry or has wet diaper, this boy would wail until he gets what he wants.  He is simply happy to see and hear me !  Happy that someone who loves him so much is gazing on him and he loves her just the same !  My kids first love is me, yup, their mother :)  I am the first body they lay on after they came out of me, the first face they see and the first set of arms encircling them, making them feel warm and safe.  This makes me think of my mom and reminded me that she was my first love and not to take her for granted.  I love her dearly.   

I told Bee I wanted to take some pictures of her.  She ran off to put on all her Kinder Surprise's accessories, hair clip, ring and bracelet !

My daughter turned 6 today.  She's a 6 year old kid now !  Oh mind !  It feels like she's been around forever but also in the same time it feels like time flew by us.  Not long ago I was holding her in my arms, oh and ah over how cute and tiny she is.

Since the day she came into our lives, Bee's always been a happy, full of spirit child.  She's generous with her smile and kisses.  "I want to grow up to be a great helper" she told us.  She wants to assist with everything.  With the new baby, she wants to hold Peanut, soothe him when he cries, and entertain him.  She also started helping Love to wash her hands, dress her, and wipe her bum bum !  I had to protest against that, complaining that it's my job :-)  (I really need to make sure bum bum are cleaned according to my standards).

Bee helps out often in the kitchen.  From washing to mixing to setting up table, she's eager to lend a helping hand.  Kids thrive, I find, when we include them in 'big people" activities, as long as it's not dangerous, like using knives or being near hot stove !  Bee would tell me "I want to help so you can rest".  Melt my heart that girl !

It's exciting to see Bee growing into a girl.  She takes note of herself in front of the mirror, fix her hair, and fuss over how she looks before school or going out.  She'll complain if her inside shirt is longer than outside, or if her socks' bottom doesn't sit on the heel properly.  She's very particular and proper.  One thing I discovered recently is that Bee treasured things (or hoarding, like me :-)  Up on her bunk bed are little toys that she got from Happy meals or Kinder eggs.  She liked them so she kept them and lined them up neatly next to each other.  She even keeps little nice note paper !!  Her bed area is very organized and neat.  If Lovebug take or move anything she will notice it right away.  Very much like her daddy !

This year, being in kindergarten, brings about the most changes.  She expresses her feeling in more details and also learned to fibs :(  she always start her confession to me with "I'm sorry mommy", then proceed with telling me what she lied about.  Like rolling down the hill on her own or giving Love boogers and tell her to eat it !!!  I told her to please keep telling me the truth and be honest.  I will not get mad.  C told her the never cry wolf story to show her the importance of telling the truth.  Hopefully it sticks !

Right now Bee's day is all about counting and spelling.  She likes to spell everything out, sound out every letter, syllable, and word.  She's very good with them and can spell and write simple word on her own, like:  milk, me, to, from, love, day, happy, mom, dad, go, today, I, mommy, daddy, dog, cat, you, fish, etc.

I noticed that Bee enjoys math.  Her fun activity is me writing down math equations for her to solve.  We're working  with addition and subtraction from 1-20 right now.  From 1-10 is too easy, she can spit out the answer pretty much instantly.  Her 2nd report card reported that she exceeds expectations in Math.  Woo hoo !  

Bee recently completed her Special Helper task at school.  It was a huge moment for all of us !  She used to be so scare and wake up at night crying over it (seeing her name coming up on the special helper's list). Her teacher said she noticed her stress and will help her.  Then a couple months ago Bee told me she's going to be brave and try to do it.  She did it and she said she's not afraid anymore.  She did it twice now.  So proud of her.  That's how things are with Bee, she takes a bit of time to process and get use to things then when she's ready she will go for it.  She likes to observe everything first.  A trait from her daddy.  Who takes time with things, who's safe and all about prevention.  Unlike her mom, who rushed into things and does things on impulse often !!!

We have many crafting days and through it I find that Bee is very creative.  Give her a few items and she'll come up with something interesting.  I'm still so impressed with the paper dollie hairband she made.   Besides crafts, her favorite pass time is Lego, reading, painting, drawing, writing, making cards, dancing to Jessie's girl, playing dolls, playing games with us, being tickled, and role play.  In the last 2 weeks she's started to play video games with C.  She is quite good with it.  She never ceased to impress me.  

Bee's currently focusing on being funny and brave.  She's still quiet when around a big group, still doesn't respond if more than 1 adult is talking to her, and if too many eyes are on her, she'll freeze.  "It's how Jesus made me" she said, when asked why she doesn't talk to aunties or uncles when they talked to her.  I agreed, she is a fine girl the way she is.  I am very proud of her.  My darling girl, I can't wait to create more memories with you !
