favorite things | sewing nursing cover

tied up with a bow !

folded to resemble a bag :-)

A friend recently gave birth and amongst the gifts for her precious little boy, I sew up a nursing cover for her.  Buying gift is fun but I found when making something for a friend, it feels special.  I enjoy the process very much.  I love my cover and have used it countless times.  It's so convenience when you're out and baby is fussy, wanting to feed.  I've used it to discreetly breastfeed my daughter at restaurants, shopping centers, church, relatives/friends' home, parks, and other public places.  I hope she will like the prints and enjoy it as much as I did.

Shoeaholic | From sunrise to sunset

I've been on the hunt for leather shoes and booties size 5.  Ones that are comfortable & versatile that I can wear from sunrise to sunset.  It's hard enough locating a 5, I noticed also that leather shoes is becoming harder and harder to come by !  I've been online browsing for weeks now and got little luck.  I'm also on a budget, I gave myself a 200 quid allowance to spend on shoes.  And also, as a deal with hubby, any shoes I buy, I have to donate at least 1 old one to salvation army (because my shoes hoarding are taking over our garage).

Yesterday, I saw a few nice ones, all leather, at Zara.com/ca but I probably want to come in and try them on as I never bought shoes from them before.  Are you as surprise as me ?  I didn't know Zara carry size 5 shoes, in both the Women's  and TRF ("young women") sections.

Here are what I got my eyes on, the max heel height I can wear is ~ 2 inches.  I don't know about you, but I feel a bit sad realizing my style now somewhat matches my age :-(  I'm all about comfort now and I even dress depending on weather !  Man, it sucks knowing I'm no longer forever21 ....

These are nice but the heels are a bit high for me, I'm on the fence on them ....

These below are pretty sleek and chic ! I can only admire them as I can't see me walking in them.  If I do, my body will be slanted, like Michael Jackson's anti-gravity lean dance move :D

If you're looking for that perfect pair of shoes or booties, here's some info. I found during my search:
  • Browns Shoes > they got really nice leather shoes and is having a sale BUT their price is on the higher end.  The nice shoes are $200+
  • Aldo > good old Aldo always have decent leather shoes for decent prices (just remember to read the label as they are starting to stock up on synthetic leather :-(
  • Le Chateau > they have a designer shoes section and an Italian boutique section, no 5 though !
  • RW & co > this one was a surprise !  I was looking for leggings and noticed they sell shoes online.  Smallest is a 6 !  bummer !
  • Zara > was looking for sweater, noticed their shoes section and decided to look into it.  Wow, they got some cute shoes and all leather to boot !
  • The Bay >  As you probably know, the Bay has been going through a lot of changes in the past few years.  They are aiming to be the "Nordstrom" of Canada.  It's about time as we lack quality department store here.  The Bay is changing for the better !  I heart their shoes floor in downtown Vancouver.  They got some pretty pretty shoes !  Many I won't wear as the heels are too high, but it's fun gawking at them !!!  Any who, moving on, the Bay is  having a great sale going on right now on boots !!!  They don't carry many size 5 :-(  I hate my small feet !!!
If you're looking for fall/winter shoes, now is the time to buy !  good luck on finding your size.

How to change "No Comments" on blogger

I've got a few emails from people saying they don't know how to leave a comment on my post.  After looking over at my blog, I realized not too many people know that the main page is a summary page so to leave a comment, they need to browse to the actual post OR click on the No Comments at the footer of the page to post something.  It's so tricky so I decided to change it !

- First, you need to go into Template > click on Edit HTML (a menu will open up like one below)
- Then click on the Format template tab at the top to view all the codes

- Click anywhere inside the code window
- The press Ctrl button together with the F key button to display the Search window
- Type in the text below in the search box and press Enter

<data:post.commentLabelFull/>
:

- There should be 3 instances of them, change it on the 2nd occurrence.  Look at the code line # to determine which is the 2nd occurrence.  Delete "<data:post.commentLabelFull/>:" and put in whatever word or phrase you want !  I changed mine to Leave a Comment.  Any question please leave me a comment below.

*Note:  FYI, I use the Simple blogger template and edited the code to my liking.

C.S. Lewis | why we should not judge

"Human beings judge one another by their external actions. God judges them by their moral choices. When a neurotic who has a pathological horror of cats forces himself to pick up a cat for some good reason, it is quite possible that in God's eyes he has shown more courage than a healthy man may have shown in winning the V.C. When a man who has been perverted from his youth and taught that cruelty is the right thing, does some tiny little kindness, or refrains from some cruelty he might have committed, and thereby, perhaps, risks being sneered at by his companions, he may, in God's eyes, be doing more than you and I would do if we gave up life itself for a friend.

It is as well to put this the other way round. Some of us who seem quite nice people may, in fact, have made so little use of a good heredity and a good upbringing that we are really worse than those whom we regard as friends. Can we be quite certain how we should have behaved if we had been saddled with the psychological outfit, and then with the bad upbringing, and then with the power, say, of Himmler? That is why Christians are told not to judge. We see only the results which a man's choices make out of his raw material. But God does not judge him on the raw material at all, but on what he has done with it. Most of the man's psychological make-up is probably due to his body: when his body dies all that will fall off him, and the real central man, the thing that chose, that made the best or worst of this material, will stand naked. All sorts of nice things which we thought our own, but which were really due to good digestion, will fall off some of us: all sorts of nasty things which were due to complexes or bad health will fall off others. We shall then, for the first time, see every one as he really was. There will be surprises."

leggings love | how to wear and where to buy

I heart leggings.  This stretchy fitted thing is the best thing since chocolate.  It's all I wear since the day I learned I was pregnant, and up until it can no longer fit my bulging stomach ( ~6 mnths).  My leggings reluctantly gave way to the maternity pants for a few months, then after I gave birth we met up again and haven't been a part since.  Best investment ever !  Leggings grow with me through all the ups and downs of my weight stages.  It gives way to all the binge eating and hot chocolate drinking.  Unlike my jeans who refuses to give in, refuses to lend a few inches to let me in.  Cold blood that thing !!!

Leggings, when done right, is chic and stylish.  When worn wrong, can be quite distasteful.

There's one simple rule to follow when it comes to leggings ladies, just remember leggings are not pants.  LEGGINGS ARE NOT PANTS.  Leggings fit tight around the crotch and butt area, so camel toe and plumber crack are very very easily achieved !!!  To avoid it, always pairing leggings with top that goes past your butt.  I've invested also in some long tanks and cardigans to wear with tops that are just a tad shy of covering my derierre.

Where can you pick up some good leggings around here ?

Garage (garage.ca) has some nice ones for $13.  Amongst the cheap leggings, the ones from Garage are best.  They are thick, soft and they last after many washes.  I've bought some from H&M and Forever21 and they aren't well made.  Also they fade after few washes :-(

If you wear leggings often (I wear them 5 days out of 7), invest in some decent leggings.  I got some from Zara and they are quite nice.  Very thick quality fabric and the size 34 fits my 4'11 height perfectly, no hemming needed.

Here are some pictures of ones I saw at my recent trip to the mall.  Very nice quality fabric and worth every penny.

sunny day at Country Pumpkin patch farm

A week of gloom and rain, then out of the gray, the sun came out on Sunday and spread its golden arms all over our city.  It feels like summer again !  My girlfriend and I packed up the kids to go our quest, searching for the best pumpkin around.  We went to our usual patch but their farm isn't ready for u-pick pumpkin yet.  A call to another mommy friend and she told me to check out Country Pumpkin down Steveston Hwy.  There's an admission fee of $11 though, she said !  I really don't want to pay a fee to enter a pumpkin patch, and then pay again for the cost of the pumpkin after :/  But we're in Richmond already, what do we do ?  the kids are so excited and keep asking "where pumpkins ????"  So off we went to Country Pumpkin patch and boy, we're so glad we did !!!

First, the $11 entrance fee INCLUDES a pumpkin so it isn't so bad.  Kids 3+ is $11 :-(  However, the farm is huge, so you can pack some food if you want to make it a full day there.  Parking is free, there're 3 huge parking lots on the left of main entrance.  Here's a little summary of what's there:
  • fenced animals farms (viewing only)
  • hay stacks playing area (my baby went nuts !)
  • a small shallow pond that has lots of ducks swimming around
  • costumed entertainment + live band, there're hay stacks to sit on
  • there are wild rabbits running around, some hiding under trees (our girl likes to look for them)
  • hay ride out to the pumpkin patch (singer entertaining kids on the ride)
  • decent size pumpkin patch, 1 free pumpkin per person (over 3 yr old), doesn't matter what size (although I noticed a few people taking 2 or 3 small ones)
  • free apple, 1 per person (I saw kids taking more than 1 ;-)  no one is monitoring so if your kid wants 2, I say let them :)
  • the pumpkin patch is next to a corn field, I saw many people eating raw corn ! and many picked and took the corns back (none of the staff there said anything).  I took one and it was soooo sweet !

WHAT TO WEAR/BRING:
  • wear rain boots or outdoor shoes.  It's a farm so lots of dirt and muddy spots.  Bring change of clothes or shoes if you're going out after.
  • bring a  kid's wagon if you're planning on bringing home a big pumpkin !  from the field to the hay ride station, and from the hay ride station to your parked car is a fair bit of a distance.
  • bring water/snack (I didn't see any where there to buy food or water)
  • bring wet naps and band aids (my kid pulled on a pumpkin and got a sliver.  If she pulled harder she might have gotten a cut :-(
*side note*:  don't forget to stop by the farm fresh produce market on the way out (free coffee) !  I bought bags full of nectarines, apples, pears, cabbages, bunches of kale (black/green), décor white pumpkins, corns, and some other veggies and the bill was less than $25.  So cheap !!!
